Chopta, the Mini Switzerland in India. Chopta is the base camp for Tungnath and Chandrashila. It is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. It is situated in the Himalayan range of Garhwal region in Uttrakhand.

The Altitudes of Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila from the sea level are 2680 meter, 3680 meter and 4000 meter respectively. It is 450 km (approx) away From Delhi, 36 km from Gopeshwar and 254km from Rishikesh.

Tungnath is only 3.5 Km from Chopta and Chandrashila Peak is only 1 Km away from Tungnath.Tungnath is third of the temple of Panch Kedar. Then from Tungnath Chandrashila is only few kilometers away and we go there by trek. From Chandrashila we can have a view of beautiful Himalayan Peaks. It is said that in winters the divinity of Kedarnath moves in Tungnath.

Best Time to visit Chopta

The best time to visit Chopta is between March to May as the weather between this time so cool and pleasant like in between 10 degrees to 30 degrees. In winters it is mostly snow covered and locally the snow meadows is called the “Snow Bhugyals”. So in winters if someone wants to see the snow clad mountains there is no better option than this place. In between December to March there is a snow fall here and the place looks like a “Mini Switzerland”.

The famous destinations on the trek to Chopta are Tungnath temple, Chandrashila peak and Deoria Tal.

Deoria Tal is nearby Sari Village, a beautiful village. At Deoria Tal we can do camping and trekking like activities and in Chopta we can do snow trekking, snow skiing like activities. Doing Camping here is like a mini picnic. We can find here a wide variety of flora and fauna like the Deodar, Rhododendron and Alpine trees.
